The Children and Youth Choir program at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church offers the children and youth of our congregation (Grades PreK-12) various opportunities to lead worship and special events through music.

Wednesdays Together with Rev. Rachel Pedersen“Wednesdays Together” Program

For PreK through grades 4 or 5, Wednesdays, 4:45-5:45 p.m. Children in PreK-1st grade learn what it means to be in a choir through Christian education, hymn singing, and music literacy, enhanced by movement and games led by Judy Potter. Children in 2nd through 4th or 5th grades begin to use the “Voice for Life” workbook series in conjunction with the singing of hymns and anthems, which further develops music literacy and choral confidence, led by Edward Landin Senn.

Rehearsals take place once a week throughout the school year with occasion to provide musical leadership during various worship opportunities. Special services, which have more music and leadership roles, include Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday, as well as monthly Evening Worship services on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. The Children’s Choir sings on their own and together with the Youth Chorale to give them more confidence and allow them to feel inspired by the more experienced voices.

Youth Chorale

For grades 5 or 6-12. Meets Wednesdays, 5:45-6:30 p.m. Directed by Edward Landin Senn. Utilizing RSCM America’s “Voice for Life” workbooks, this program encourages students to feel connected to the music and life of the church as they grow their skills of singing, reading music, and providing leadership.

Special services, which have more music and leadership roles, include Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday, as well as monthly Evening Worship services on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. The Youth Chorale sings on its own and, at times, together with the Sanctuary Choir of BMPC, providing it with an opportunity to work with a larger group of singers and enhance its knowledge of choral repertoire.
