Window into American History

Sunday, June 14
11:15 a.m. | Chapel

Created in the shadow of World War II, the Nation Window in the BMPC Chapel offers a unique interpretation of American history through symbols of liberty, justice, equality, education, faith, and truth. As the United States prepares to commemorate its 250th anniversary, this class invites us to look more closely at the stories, values, and aspirations reflected in this remarkable work of sacred art.

Led by the Rev. Rebecca Kirkpatrick, this class will explore the history and theology behind the window, including the vision of artist Henry Lee Willet and the context in which the window was created. Together, we will consider how understandings of national memory have evolved over time and how faith communities engage questions of patriotism, public faith, racial injustice, and reparative justice.

Through discussion and reflection, participants will examine how sacred art can both preserve tradition and challenge us to deeper understanding, inviting us to consider the relationship between our faith, our history, and our shared civic life.

All are welcome to join this thoughtful conversation as we reflect on the stories we tell about our nation and the values we hope to embody in the years ahead.
