Caring for Our Campus
A well-maintained campus is the result of both big improvements and many smaller projects that happen throughout the year. This season, BMPC has invested in upgrades that improve energy efficiency and lighting, preserve the historic character of our buildings, and make our shared spaces more comfortable and functional.
One of the most significant upgrades was the conversion of all Sanctuary lighting to LED technology. The project replaced 172 light bulbs and reduced the Sanctuary’s total electrical load from 26,800 watts to just 2,200 watts—a substantial improvement in energy efficiency. A rented lift allowed staff to safely reach the fixtures, clean the chandelier glass, and complete several necessary repairs. The new system also provides improved light quality and greater control over the Sanctuary’s lighting.
Preservation work continued on the Sanctuary’s exterior with the removal of a fractured cast stone windowsill by Mara Restoration. The damage resulted from water entering the stone and repeatedly freezing and expanding during the winter, causing the stone to deteriorate. An exact replica of the windowsill is being fabricated for replacement, helping protect the exterior of the Sanctuary and prevent further damage to the surrounding structure.
Preventive maintenance also received attention this season. The Chapel Memorial Garden rail, Atrium entrance railings, and gutter boots were scraped, prepared, and repainted to address rust and deterioration. Several exterior doors were also sanded and resealed as part of the church’s regular door maintenance schedule. These relatively small projects help protect wood and metal surfaces, extend their useful life, and prevent deterioration that could eventually lead to more extensive and costly repairs.
The Fine Arts Building also received an important update. The men’s restroom underwent a much-needed renovation, including new wall and floor tile and updated fixtures. The refreshed space is brighter and more welcoming while also being easier to clean and maintain.
From major energy-saving upgrades to routine preventive maintenance, these projects are part of BMPC’s ongoing commitment to responsible stewardship of our buildings and grounds. By caring for the campus today, we help ensure that it continues to serve the congregation and community well into the future.
