Gallery Talk: Flora and Fauna by Alice Dustin
Sunday, September 14
11:15 a.m. | BMPC Gallery
Join us in the BMPC Gallery for a special Gallery Talk with local artist Alice Dustin as she shares the inspiration and meaning behind Flora & Fauna—a deeply personal collection of intimate, 6-inch-square oil portraits of animals.
Painted alla prima, or “wet in wet,” each portrait is completed in a single session, capturing a fleeting moment of connection between artist and subject. The animals—ranging from cherished pets and farm companions to imagined creatures—are brought to life with warmth, character, and care.
More than portraits, these works serve as quiet ambassadors for environmental advocacy. As Dustin explains, Flora & Fauna is “a kind of political statement,” honoring animals who cannot speak for themselves as their habitats are increasingly threatened. In alignment with this vision, a portion of proceeds from artwork sales will support organizations addressing climate change.
A longtime Ardmore resident, Dustin has been painting and teaching for more than two decades. Her work has been featured in galleries across the East Coast and internationally, including the Woodmere Art Museum, Fleisher Art Memorial, and The Rittenhouse Art Exhibit. While her artistic journey has taken many paths, Flora & Fauna, she says, is the work closest to her heart.
Come meet the artist, view the collection, and join a meaningful conversation about art, animals, and the environment.
