Guidelines for Applications

We are pleased to learn of your interest in becoming a partner in the ministries of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. We look forward to working with you, and to learning from you.

Please complete and return the attached application form. You may request and complete and submit this electronically (see e-mail address below). Please include all requested materials when filing an application.

All grants approved by Worldwide Ministries Council of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church require annual reports. Applications for support may be received at any time during the year, but funding decisions are generally made during the first six months of the calendar year.

Our goal is to establish partnerships between BMPC members and our co-workers in the countries where we are privileged to give financial support. As a church, we want to be more than a funding source. We aim to be transparent in our desire for justice for those whom we support and to work toward transformative relationships for both BMPC members and those with whom we work. We will be glad to explore with you how our goal might mutually benefit our two organizations. We seek your initial comments in the enclosed application.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Worldwide Ministries Council guidelines to keep in mind when developing grant applications:

Ministry.  Which developmental ministry of compassion, justice and/or transformation does your project best characterize?  We recognize three broad definitions of developmental ministries:

·        Compassion ministry reaches out to respond to human need and expects no reciprocity.

·        Justice ministry generally involves activities that enable greater freedom and independence on the part of the recipients.

·        Transformation ministry connotes a reciprocal relationship where both parties become interdependent and benefit from the relationship.

Reciprocity and Partnership.  What are the opportunities for involvement of BMPC members?  What plans do you have for working in partnership with BMPC on the proposed project?

Christian Roots and Faith.  How will this project contribute to the life and witness of your church?  What contribution can it make to ecumenical relations?  Priority will be given to those programs that contribute to the life and witness of churches and institutions related to the reform heritage.

Sustainability.  What plans do you have for movement toward self-sufficiency of the proposed project?

Empowering.  Is the project operated and governed by those being served?

Cultural sensitivity.  How does your project respect the culture of the people served?

Progress Report and Financial stewardship.  How will you report annually to the Council on the progress of your project and provide a record of your finances?
