Presbyterian World Mission

BMPC Liaison:  Carol Cobb Nettleton

South America

To engage with U.S. Presbyterians and global partners for faithful and effective participation in God’s mission in a globalized world, growing together as communities of mission practice.

The goal of Presbyterian World Mission is to serve as a platform where Presbyterians from more than 11,000 congregations can be inspired, equipped and connected to engage in God’s mission around the globe: witnessing, teaching, healing, reconciling and loving. We are mission agency of excellence wit mission workers in more than 50 countries.

While the spectrum of our ministries is broad, the work of Presbyterian World Mission falls into three major emphases: sending mission personnel, empowering the global church, and equipping the PC (USA) for mission.

The 2011 grant request is to support the ministry of Rev. Jed Koball, mission co-worker in Peru. Jed serves as a Companionship Facilitator for the Joining Hands Against Poverty program that fights against the root causes of hunger and poverty by helping form networks in developing countries and partnering them with people of faith in the US in order to develop international campaigns. They are seeking to clean up one of the most polluted place in the world, La Oroya where an American-owned lead smelter has so polluted the environment that 97% of the La Oroya’s children have dangerously high levels of lead poisoning.

Volunteer Opportunities:

We have many mission workers who work helping our partner churches to host groups from the United States. These mission workers especially could facilitate a visit from your congregation, and could help plan a stay in country that would include Bible study, possible service projects and interaction with our partners. In addition, our mission workers would be happy to visit your congregation to share with all of your members about the work they do.
