International Health Services (IHS)

 | In 1990, as the head of Emergency Medicine at Brandywine Hospital and a faculty member of Thomas Jefferson University, Dr. Robert Snyder was asked to participate on a team to evaluate the Latvian emergency medicine system. (The dismantling of the Berlin Wall had occurred the year before.) This trip proved to have a great influence on Bob. As a physician and follower of Jesus Christ, he was moved by the lack of basic healthcare and the spiritual void evident in the lives of the people of Central and Eastern Europe. In 1995, Bob established International Health Service (IHS), and, in April 1996, the family moved to their new home in Hungary.
In four years, IHS has developed a number of program opportunities, including a Christ-centered clinic, physician partnerships (an opportunity for Western physicians to partner with their colleagues in Central and Eastern Europe, offering financial and professional support and spiritual encouragement), a management academy and professional seminars and retreats. Dr. Jossef Gyori, the national director in Hungary, and his wife Rita visited the congregation in July, 2000 to update us about the mission and ministry of this organization.
