Interreligious Coordinating Council
BMPC Liaison: Carol Cobb-Nettleton
USA-Israel
Founded in January 1991, the Interreligious Coordinating Council in Israel (ICCI) is now Israel’s best-known and most-respected interreligious organization. It comprises more than 60 Christian, Palestinian/Muslim, and Jewish institutions, including Jewish-Arab coexistence organizations, museums, universities, and ecumenical organizations. This umbrella organization actively works to develop and implement innovative and original educational and social action programs, promoting interreligious and intercultural understanding. ICCI’s mission is to harness the teachings and values of the three monotheistic religions into sources of reconciliation and peaceful coexistence, based on the understanding that religions should not be part of the problem, but rather can be part of the solution. ICCI's work focuses primarily on religious leaders, women and young adults, youth and educators, in the belief that these groups can serve as catalysts and spread the message of peace to the general population. ICCI deeply believes that, when people of faith join together in mutual understanding and respect to achieve the common goal of living together in harmony, their efforts will help reduce the violence and increase the chances that people in the region will learn to live in peace.
Volunteer Opportunities: It would please us very much to have the BMPC members engage in this project and other programs of the ICCI. ICCI has already welcomed and hosted visiting Presbyterian delegations (both national and local) from the U.S.A . in recent years. A delegation of the BMPC is more than welcome to visit our Jerusalem, Israel headquarters and to hear first hand about these activities from the current participants and alumni of the various ICCI programs. BMPC may also receive a personal briefing from Dr. Ron Kronish, ICCI Director, on one of his frequent visits to the United States. Additionally, BMPC members are invited to follow the reports of these programs in our monthly newsletter (to subscribe, please contact communications@icci.org.il), our blog (http://icciblog.wordpress.com) and/or our website (http://icci.org.il).
