Faith in Practice
USA - Central America
BMPC Liaison:
Judy Ehrman
Mission:
The mission of Faith in Practice is to
improve the physical, spiritual, and economic conditions of the poor
in Guatemala through short-term surgical, medical and dental mission
trips and health-related educational programs. Our mission is based
on an ecumenical understanding that as people of God we are called
to demonstrate the love and compassion that is an outward sign of
God's presence among us. Faith in Practice's life-changing medical
mission is to minister to the poor, while providing a spiritually
enriching experience for our volunteers.
Each year, more than 600 Guatemalan volunteers
work beside our volunteers in this endeavour. Faith in Practice
teams see more than 20,000 patients annually. Our volunteers serve
through a variety of teams that are connected, providing a
continuity of care in the context of short term medical mission.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Consider volunteering with Faith in Practice.
With your commitment, you are joining thousands who have served
before you in the name of the Wounded Healer. During our last
season, over 1,000 US Faith In Practice volunteers from across the
United States answered the call and provided healthcare to over
20,000 patients through our medical, surgical, VIA/Cryo and dental
teams. These patients also received support through the efforts of
our pharmacy and maintenance teams. Over 600 Guatemalan volunteers,
as well as the hospital staff where our surgical teams operate,
assist and work side by side with our Faith In Practice volunteers.
