Mission:
Matanzas Central Presbyterian
Church in Cuba has been the recipient of donations from BMPC and as
a result has been able to remodel its kitchen and offer weekly meals
for the elderly in the area. Trips to Cuba have been made by our
Choir and other church members to support our Cuba Connection. The
people of Cuba and the United States desire friendship between
brothers and sisters while our governments remain at odds.
SET (Seminario
Ecumenico Theologico) is the only remaining non-denominational
seminary to survive the Cuban revolution. Situated on hillside in
the sprawling city of Matanzas, SET has been preparing ministers and
church workers for the Presbyterian, Anglican, and Baptist
congregations for sixty years. BMPC has supported this work through
the Ofelia Ortega find, as well as the Presbyterian Foundation funds
that were set up to gather long-range mission work.

Opportunities:
The Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is receiving donations
(account DR000166) for Caribbean hurricane relief in the wake of
Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. Go online to PDA’s disaster response
page. Advocate for an end to restrictions that prevent Americans
from directly coming to the aid of our Cuban sisters and brothers.
We implore you to use every means at your command to seek a
suspension of the embargo on economic trade and the restrictions on
travel to Cuba by U.S. citizens. Humanitarian aid groups and
religious communions in the U.S. should be able to send both
financial and material aid to Cuba without restriction. Pray for the
church and the people of Cuba.
