Research on the development of learning in preschoolers shows that young children develop best in stimulating environments that enrich the child's natural growth. Therefore, the Weekday School classrooms are rich with opportunities for learning. For example, the children are not forced to learn the alphabet or numbers however, the classrooms are filled with words, numbers, letters, shapes, and other symbols, so that when a child is ready for new learning, he or she has access to increasingly complex challenges. Each classroom provides developmentally appropriate activities for children. There are structured activities such as story time in large groups and art time in small groups. There is also time for children to make their own choices; children choose from activities during Open Time, such as the imaginative play center, the writing center, the manipulative center, computer center, or the creative center.
The Weekday School Curriculum is
developed by our staff and is arranged in topics with artwork,
stories, language arts, fine and large motor skills, games and other
activities supporting each topic. Some of the topics include:
Community Helpers, Mighty Manners, God's Watery World, Farm Friends,
Native Americans, Creatures of the Night, and Our Favorite Authors.
The curriculum incorporates opportunities for our students to learn
the alphabet and its sounds, numbers, shapes, new vocabulary, and
problem solving skills within a given subject.
The Weekday School staff consists of loving, experiences, state-certified lead teachers and highly-qualified assistant teachers. This dedicated team works in partnership with parents to promote the well-being of every child. Periodic continuing education events are part of the staff's professional development. |
