Sherri Hausser

Sherri joined our staff as an Associate Pastor in August, 2001. She is responsible for our adult education programs, which include ministries for couples and singles in their 20s and 30s (CoffeeKirk) and for single adults in their 40s and 50s (InSight). She also serves as staffperson for Worldwide Ministries.

Sherri received her Masters of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary in 1999. For the next two years, she was a Resident in Parish Ministry at Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, a church similar in size to BMPC.Before deciding to enter the ministry, Sherri developed a career in international relations. Building on her experiences as a Rotary Scholar in Kakogawa, Japan, and a year volunteering at a Vietnamese refugee camp, Sherri earned her bachelor’s degree in international studies from American University’s School of International Service. During that time, she spent a year at Himeji Dokkyo University in Japan studying Japanese language, politics, and culture. She also interned with a member of the Japanese House of Representatives.

For several years following graduation, Sherri worked  in Boston for a Japanese Women’s University, promoting understanding between Japanese and Americans. She carried her strong interest in fostering understanding among different peoples to her work with the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago. While there, she planned and facilitated an inter-religious celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The child of a pastor, Sherri is an avid traveler who has visited 30 countries. She is a founding member of The Interfaith Center of Greater Philadelphia and a participant in the Pastor Theologian Program at the Center for Theological Inquiry at Princeton University. She has also been a participant and facilitator for the Goldin Institute for International Partnership and Peace conferences in Spain (2003), Taiwan (2004), and India (2005). She believes that “challenging education helps us to bring what we believe into conversation with what we experience in the world.”
