World Day of Prayer at
Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church

World Day of Prayer (WDP) is a worldwide ecumenical movement of people of many faith traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year on the first Friday in March.  Each year a different country serves as the writer of the WDP worship service.  This year’s program was written by the WDP Committee of Cameroon.

This year World Day of Prayer is on Friday, March 5, 2010.  All communities of faith are invited to join together as we fulfill the call of Psalm 150:   “Let Everything That Has Breath Praise God.”   Fellowship and refreshments will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Congregational Hall.  Our focus will be the struggles of the women and children in Cameroon, West Africa and our prayers will call for their justice and peace.

Come journey with us to Cameroon and enter a world vibrant with song and praise.   We will pick up our instruments and make music.  Together we will dance in the procession while singing praises to God.  Together we will fulfill the call of Psalm 150: “Let Everything That Has Breath Praise God.”

Past PW Moderators
“Celebrate the Gifts of Women”

Join us for worship on Sunday, March 21st at both the 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship services as Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church observes “Celebrate the Gifts of Women.”  The 2010 theme for the Presbyterian Church (USA) is “Women Keeping the Message Alive.” The celebrate the gifts of women is to celebrate the gift of the message God shares with them and through them.

Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church traces its roots back to 1880.  In that year the ladies of the young church formed “The Happy Thought Circle.”   Mrs. Josiah Pearce was the first chairlady.  The Circle was the forerunner of “The Women’s Association, know today as “Presbyterian Women.”

As we worship together in this special service we will also be recognizing and honoring past BMPC Moderators of Presbyterian Women which began in the early 1940.  Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church has one of the few Presbyterian Women programs that are a growing, active and vibrant organization.  Rev. Susan Rice will preach and women of all ages will be taking part in both services. So let us celebrate together as we lead all of God’s people in worship.

BMPC PERSPECTIVES IN MUSIC 2009-2010

HAN CHIEN LEE, March 22: It is an honor to present bright young pianist and Peabody student, Han Chien Lee, as a series performer this year.  You will recall that she was the exquisite accompanist to violist Rachel Ku last April.  As a special focus and in celebration of the bicentenary of Frédéric Chopin’s birth, she will feature a few pieces from Chopin’s beautiful piano repertoire.  You will be very happy to be there!

RANDALL SCARLATA, April 26: How fortunate we are to have baritone Randall Scarlata perform for us!  Eastman and Juilliard educated, Randall possesses a warm, expressive voice, superb musicianship and a varied repertoire that keep him in great demand both nationally and internationally.  Currently a gifted voice professor at West Chester University, he is a consummate interpreter of art songs, lieder, oratorio and opera.  Pianist Laura Ward returns to Perspectives to accompany him!  Wow!

OUR ANNUAL EVENT, May: As usual, our year-end event is yet to be determined.  Whether a trip, a luncheon or some other special entertainment, your suggestions are always welcome for consideration.  We have a long history of exceptional season-ending celebrations and this year will be no exception.  Think about it and submit your ideas!
