Worldwide Ministries and Outreach/Urban Suburban Ministries
Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church has a long, rich history of ministries with those in need in the world around us - projects which are the responsibility of the
Worldwide Ministries and Outreach Councils of the Session.
Worldwide Ministries
Council:
"We are more aware than ever before of the needs in our global village.
Through the work of our Worldwide Ministries Council and through vital partnerships, we hope
to be able to make a difference."
Where in the World...is
BMPC?
Through mission partnerships, we grow in faith as we both give and
receive the benefits of reciprocal mission. This begins with Synod activities
(in the states of Pennsylvania and West Virginia) and goes on to include many
different cultural, political and economic settings, including those people and
projects supported by our national denomination. Our priorities, according to
our Mission Statement, include:
• To nurture acts of proclamation, instruction, healing, and reconciliation
by mobilizing and directing our congregation’s human and material resources
• To relate the Bryn Mawr Church family to the blessings and challenges of
Christ’s work with brothers and sisters worldwide
• To cherish and share love, prayers, and God’s spiritual gifts with all
people
Examples of activities supported by the Worldwide
Ministries Council include the work of
Presbyterian missionaries overseas, Appalachian ministries, a medical college
and hospital program in India, theological education scholarships in the U.S.A.
and Africa, and our own Mission Guest program.
We also provide opportunities for mission study as well as ecumenical tours
to visit people and project sites with whom we are in relationship.

Outreach Council concentrates its ministries in greater Philadelphia
and the city of Chester. Projects are funded based upon the established
priorities of education, health, children and youth, housing, and support of
inner city Presbyterian Churches. Involvement often extends beyond financial
contribution and includes members’ time, energy, and expertise.
The following illustrate our congregation’s commitment to the surrounding
community:
•
Urban Suburban Partnership (a
subcommittee of the Outreach Council)
• Support of numerous activities to nurture and encourage children and
youth in need.
• The Other Carpenter, working with
low-income homeowners residing in the East Parkside community of West
Philadelphia to assist them in making improvements in their homes.
Volunteers are welcome and are taught basic housing skills. Please call
David Heaton if you have an interest in volunteering, (267-284-0310,
dtocarpenter@aol.com) .
• Commitment to
Habitat for Humanity projects in the Delaware Valley
• Our Tutoring
Program, which brings inner city children
to our campus twice weekly for one-on-one pairing with local teenagers.
•
WePAC, West Philadelphia Alliance for Children
•
