Dear Members and Friends of Bryn Mawr Church,
I write to you this month as the new fellow at the church with the interim pastor responsibility. I have accepted this appointment with joyful expectation that, together, we can put this great church on a course that leads to new life and ministry for us all.
I also write to emphasize the shared dimensions of our task over the next several years as we prepare for new pastoral leadership. We want, more than anything else I believe, for this church to be a place where potential pastors are knocking at the door to be given the privilege of serving such a thriving congregation. One important measure of our determination to be all that we can be is our levels of stewardship participation. Your pledge and my pledge and the pledges of us all to the mission of this congregation are a signal indicator of our commitment to the church's future. I know you are aware that no one of us can do alone what needs to be done but that together we can make a difference in assuring BMPC's strong future.
Some people have spoken to me about doubling their pledge for the new year. Not all of us can do that. But many of us can make an increase in the percentage of our pledge so help the church recover its mission priorities. We won't have to make further reductions in our important outreach and local and regional missions giving if each of us makes an effort to consider the importance of our contribution to those priorities.
I am certain that you will do all you can to assure Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church's strong future as we move through this significant transitional time in our life together. Thank you for all you have done in the past for what I know you will seek to do in this stewardship season to support our efforts. I know our time together will be rewarding for us and momentous for the future of the Bryn Mawr Church.
James L. Carter, Interim Pastor
