Associate Pastor Nominating Committee
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is there a job
description for the Associate Pastor’s position?
A.
Yes, a job description is being developed. When completed, it will
go before BMPC Session and the Philadelphia Presbytery’s
Committee on Ministry for approval and then is placed on the APNC
website.
Q. Why do we need
such a long process?
A. The
PCUSA (Presbyterian Church of the USA) has determined how its
churches select a Pastor. While each local church votes to make the
final decision, there is a constitution and a Book of Order that
must be followed. This process is designed to allow both a fair and
open search as well as time for prayer and discernment.
Q.
Does the APNC receive training?
A.
Yes, there are many resources that the APNC has already accessed for
guidance in how to conduct a pastoral search. In addition, the
Philadelphia Presbytery provides a member of the Committee on
Ministry (COM) who meets with us and provides guidance, support and
materials on calling an Associate Pastor.
Q.
Can I email my ideas to the APNC?
A.
Yes, we would love to hear from you. Look at the “Contact Us” page
on the website for individual email addresses, or email the whole
committee at apncyouth@bmpc.org
Q: Will we be able to find out who is under consideration? A:
No, due to the confidential nature of a pastoral search, all
information about candidates must remain strictly within the search
committee.
Q: What role does the Interim Pastor play in the Associate Pastor
selection process?
A: While the Interim Pastor may support the APNC in their role,
he is not directly involved with the work of the APNC. He is also
prohibited by the Book of Order from being called as our next
installed pastor under any circumstances.
